Mercedes Schlapp's role as White House Strategic Communications Advisor isn't easy. In her role as the White House's strategic communications advisor, Schlapp is faced with multiple problems. Schlapp has managed to stay focused and on task and work in conjunction with White House teams in political matters, legislative affairs and policy as well the larger communication team. So far, Schlapp has focused on school safety issues, addiction infrastructure, international trade and addiction. She does not interact much with the media in the job she has. The attention she attracted during March was when she was named one of the potential candidates to replace Hope Hicks. She has to contend with numerous challenges, for instance as being the President's communications director, and acts as his director of communications. However, throughout it all Schlapp remains focused on the mission in hand and has worked closely with the White House's political as well as legislative affairs and policy shops as as the broader communications operation for policy-related rollouts. The focus has been on matters such as the safety of schools, opioids, infrastructure and trade. Schlapp isn't involved with journalists frequently in her current job. In March, she received a flurry of attention, when it became widely known that Schlapp was a potential candidate to fill Hope Hicks's post as director of communications. The fight has been fierce. Schlapp was a ally of Tony Sayegh. He was running for office. They started fighting in media. Schlapp claimed that, following the time that the Washington Examiner had published an article with negative comments about Sayegh's personality, she contacted Sayegh in a private chat.
